BroadVoice Review

Bottom Line:
Full range of features and ability to BYOD makes this a great choice for domestic and global business needs

Full Review:
BroadVoice offers calling plans for businesses of all sizes and needs. While its website leaves a little to be desired as far as finding information, the prices are competitive and an array of premium features, such as online faxing and a free mobile app, make this service a great choice.

BroadVoice offers two business plans: the Standard plan, which offers unlimited calling in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, and the Global plan, which offers unlimited calling to 75 countries. Frustratingly, BroadVoice does not provide pricing information about its plans online, meaning potential customers have to call and speak with a sales representative to find out this information. After a phone call, we were able to find out the specifics. BroadVoice does not limit the amount of extensions a business can have, which is great news for large companies.

Standard Plan
This plan allows unlimited calling in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. The cost for the Standard plan is $17.95/month per extension for a 2-year contract or $19.95/month per extension for a 1-year contract. BroadVoice also offers month-to-month service for its Standard Plan, which costs $20.95/month per extension.

Global Plan
The Global Plan offers unlimited calling to 75 countries, a list of which you can find on the BroadVoice website. The cost for this plan is $24.95/month per extension for a 2-year contract and $29.95/month per extension for a 1-year contract. The Global Plan is not available for month-to-month service.

As with most VoIP services, you can transfer your existing number for free. The cost for additional local numbers and toll-free numbers is $5/number. Toll-free numbers will also cost 4¢/minute. Another perk BroadVoice offers is the ability to purchase a virtual local number for up to 48 different countries outside the U.S., so residents of another country can call and be directed to your regular telephone number. The cost-per-month varies by country, but all include a one-time activation fee of $10.

There are no setup or shipping fees, but as with all VoIP services, you will be subject to local fees and taxes.

An array of features is included with all of BroadVoice's business VoIP plans for free. Some of these include 3-way calling, E-911 service, 411 calling, hold music, voicemail with voicemail-to-email, call forwarding with advanced features and caller ID. The only feature that is not included in the plans is auto attendant, which costs an extra $15/month.

BroadVoice also offers online faxing, which turns faxes sent to your number into PDF files which are sent to your email. You can use a fax machine with your service as well, using the same phone number as your phone service.

Since VoIP in general requires specialized phones, BroadVoice has a range of phone models and related equipment to choose from. Customers can lease this equipment or buy it outright. For example, the Polycom VVX401 is available for lease at $6/month or purchase at $195.

If you'd prefer to save some money by not purchasing phones, BroadVoice does offer soft phone options. The mobile application is available on both iOS and Android phones. All you'll need to do to access your service is download the app and connect to Wi-Fi. Already have your own equipment? BroadVoice supports Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and has a list of compatible devices for view on its website.

BroadVoice offers technical support via phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When we called customer service, the call was handled efficiently. The person on the phone did not push for a sale, which we appreciated, and answered all of our questions knowledgeably.

If you wish to cancel your service, there is a money-back guarantee within the first 30 days of your contract. Otherwise, it will cost $99 per extension to cancel before your contract is up — which could add up quickly. If you're unsure about whether VoIP service is right for your business, it's wise to start with one of the non-contract, monthly plans.

BroadVoice brings a lot to the table when it comes to business VoIP, especially for customers with global calling needs. We appreciated the responsiveness of its customer support, and users will enjoy the many features available for free with both plan types. The ability to use your own equipment with BYOD is a huge plus, and it's easy to try before you buy with the monthly option and 30-day money-back guarantee.
