It’s no secret that carrying debt comes with high interest rates. A low APR credit card can help, but it won’t do you much good if you don’t get a long enough 0% intro APR. Lucky for you, we’re detailing our favorite balance transfer credit cards. The cards listed below allow you to avoid credit card interest until nearly 2021! Keep reading to find the right card for your balance transfer.

Best for average to excellent credit: Discover it Cash Back

  • 14-month 0% intro APR on balance transfers and purchases — then it’s 13.49% to 24.49% variable
  • 3% intro balance transfer fee, up to 5% fee on future balance transfers (see terms)
  • 5% back on rotating categories each quarter you activate (up to the quarterly maximum, currently $1,500 in purchases, then it’s 1% back)
  • Matches your cash back at end of first year

Credit required: Average to excellent credit (usually considered a credit score of 670 or higher)

Why we like it: Discover it Cash Back is our favorite card for average to excellent credit because it offers some serious cash back rewards with a long 0% intro APR period and no annual fee. Cardholders earn 5% cash back on rotating categories each quarter they activate (up to the quarterly maximum, currently $1,500 in purchases, then it’s 1% back) as well as 1% cash back on all other purchases. In addition to that, Discover will match all of the cash back you earn at the end of your first year, meaning if you earn $150 back, Discover will match that $150 to give you a total of $300 back.

Best for avoiding interest until 2021: Citi Simplicity Card

  • 21-month 0% intro APR on balance transfers
  • 5% balance transfer fee ($5 minimum)
  • 12-month 0% intro APR on purchases
  • No late fees
  • No penalty APR
  • Free access to your FICO Score
  • Set up your own bill payment schedule on any available due date in the beginning, middle or end of the month

Credit required: Good to excellent credit (usually considered a credit score of 700 or higher)
Why we like it: The Citi Simplicity Card (a NextAdvisor advertiser) is industry-leading with its lengthy introductory APR offer that takes you into 2021 with no interest on your balance transfer! Its 21-month 0% intro APR on balance transfers is the longest 0% intro APR we’ve seen. Although it comes with a higher 5% balance transfer fee (a $5 minimum), we think this fee is worth it when you compare it to how much interest you pay on your current credit card.

Best for cash back: Bank of America Cash Rewards credit card

  • 15-billing cycle 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers made in the first 60 days (then it’s 15.49% – 25-49% variable)
  • 3% balance transfer fee ($10 minimum)
  • 3% cash back in the category of your choice, 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs, 1% on all other purchases (up to a quarterly limit)
  • $200 online cash rewards bonus when you make $1,000 in purchases in your first 90 days

Credit required: Good to excellent credit (usually considered a credit score of 700 or higher)
Why we like it: The Bank of America Cash Rewards credit card not only allows you to avoid interest until nearly 2021 but also has an unusually generous rewards structure that lets you choose the category you earn the highest 3% cash back on — from gas to drug stores to travel and dining. This perk puts you in the driver’s seat to make the most of your everyday spending. Cardholders also enjoy 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs and 1% on all other purchases ($2,500 a quarter in combined 3% and 2% category purchases). Should you have any debt to pay off, the Cash Rewards card offers an introductory 0% APR for 15 billing cycles on balance transfers made within your first 60 days (15.49% - 25.49% Variable, thereafter). Better still, this card doesn’t charge an annual fee, and the $200 online cash bonus (received after spending $1,000 in your first 90 days) makes for a nice bonus from this already attractive offer.
