Fresh n' Lean Review

Fresh n' Lean
Bottom Line:
Completely organic, vegan and gluten-free; average priced compared to other diet delivery programs; meals are flavorless; lacks fitness diary

Full Review:
Fresh n' Lean differs from other diet delivery programs in that its meals are completely plant-based, gluten-free, organic and vegan, meaning it contains no animal products like dairy. Its goal is "to make healthy eating simple and fun," and the cuisine styles range from Mediterranean and Continental to Asian and South American.

How Does it Taste?

Though Fresh n' Lean guarantees that its meals never contain GMOs, artificial ingredients, preservatives, MSG or dairy, it didn't score so well in our diet taste test, ranking the lowest for taste when compared to the other diet delivery programs we review. Our taste testers gave it an overall 3 out of 5 stars and described the meals as "bland," "tasteless" and "mushy." The panel also didn't rank the service very high on the appearance scale, however, when it comes to a satisfying serving size, Fresh n' Lean got a perfect score with 5 stars. While it's important to feel full after a meal, it's equally important, if not more, to actually enjoy what you're eating and our results found that not to be the case with Fresh n' Lean's meals.

Plans and Pricing

Fresh n' Lean offers a few different meal plans, as well as an option to order a la carte. One of the pricier plans is the Standard Plan, which provides three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and costs $27.99/day. If you only want two meals or one meal/day, the service offers a Lunch and Dinner Meal Plan for $21.99/day and a 1 Entree/Day Plan that costs $14.99/day.

If you opt to order meals a la carte, it's important to note that this option has a $105 order minimum (most meals are priced between $5 and $15 each). Fresh n' Lean does offer discounts for larger a la carte orders, with 6% percent off orders over $200, 8% off orders over $250 and 10% off orders over $300. We decided to order a la carte, which offers free shipping on any order. If you choose to sign up for one of the plans, however, your shipping costs vary. That said, Fresh n' Lean does sometimes offer specials for free shipping on these types of orders as well.

All of Fresh n' Lean's meals use all natural ingredients and limited salt and seasoning, making it ideal for those who want to watch their sodium intake. The menu changes quite frequently, and if you choose to sign up for one of the plans instead of ordering a la carte, the company will select the meals it sends to you at random. Some examples of its breakfast options include pumpkin oatmeal and mango banana chia, and for lunch and dinner, we received meals such as turmeric sweet potato curry lentils and Greek cauliflower pilaf.

The meals come with a "best by _______" date on every container and can be prepared in the microwave, stovetop or oven. It's important to pay attention to the expiration dates and put the meals in the freezer if you aren't planning to eat them within the first two weeks of receiving your order. One thing that was different about Fresh n' Lean compared to other diet delivery services was that all of its meals are to be kept in the refrigerator instead of the freezer, unless you’d like to save them for future consumption (past the best by date).

Support and Fitness

Fresh n' Lean is strictly a diet delivery service; it does not offer any fitness diaries or support from a dietician. Its customer support team can be reached via email or by phone from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, should you have any questions regarding your meals, delivery dates or order modifications. The representative we spoke with was both friendly and helpful, but we wished there was an option to contact Fresh n' Lean on the weekend.

Despite lacking flavor and ranking the lowest on our annual diet taste test, Fresh n' Lean is a great option for those looking for something that's completely organic, vegan and gluten-free. That said, if you don't have specific dietary restrictions, you'll probably want to try a different diet delivery service with more support.
