U.S. Bank Flexperks® Gold American Express® Card Review

Our Detailed Review of This Card

U.S. Bank Flexperks® Gold American Express® Card is a rewards card with redemption flexibility. To start, you'll earn 30,000 points after spending $2,000 in the first 4 months you have the card, a value of up to $600 in airfare. The ongoing rewards are pretty good too — you'll earn 3 points per $1 you spend at restaurants, 2 points per $1 you spend at gas stations and on airlines, and 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases. Frequent travelers will appreciate that you'll also get an automatic statement credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry to make your air travel experience smoother.

You can redeem your earned points for airline tickets, cash back, merchandise and gift cards. The minimum redemption amount is 5,000 points. To redeem you points for airfare you must use the U.S. Bank online portal, and you can request a $25 credit (via phone) to be used towards baggage fees or in-flight treats. Cash back is redeemed in the form of a deposit to a U.S. Bank checking, savings account or as a statement credit to your account. However, we were unable to determine the point value of this card and it doesn't seem you can use your points for other travel options such as hotel stays or rental cards. If you're looking for a travel card with a clearer point value and more redemption options, consider Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.

Overall this is a good travel rewards cards with the opportunity to earn generous ongoing rewards. However, its lack of clear point value and somewhat limited travel redemption options may not make it the best travel card for all users.
