Our Detailed Review of This Card

Apply for This Card

The Discover it® Miles card is an excellent choice for anyone who would like to earn travel rewards and keep up to date with their FICO® Credit Score. It also placed well in our Travel Rewards Credit Card Analysis, with an average flight and hotel value of $1.50 per $100 spent. Cardholders will earn an unlimited 1.5 Miles for every dollar they spend. It's nice that you don't have to worry about categories or signing up for quarterly rewards with this card - instead you'll earn a consistent 1.5 Miles per $1 on every purchase. Plus, and this is a big plus, Discover will match all the Miles you've earned at the end of the year, so you're effectively earning 3 Miles for each $1 you spend in the first year! For example, if you earned 50,000 Miles they'll match it and you'll get an extra 50,000 Miles for a total of 100,000 Miles. This is the only card we know of to make this offer, and although it's a one-time offer for your first year it's still a pretty big deal.

Redeeming your earned Miles is easy, and very flexible. Every 100 Miles you earn can be redeemed for $1. You have the choice of redeeming them for a statement credit against travel purchases, or getting them direct deposited into your bank account. If you choose to go the statement credit route, just use your Discover it Miles card to make your travel purchases however you'd like on whatever airline/hotel/cruise/etc you wish. Then you can redeem your Miles as a statement credit towards that purchase. The nice thing about this method is that you aren't tied in to any particular airlines or hotel and you can book your travel however you'd like.

Additional card perks include a 0% intro APR for 14 months on purchases, a free FICO® Credit Score on your monthly statement and no annual fee. And if you like to travel internationally, you'll be pleased that here are no foreign transaction fees. This can save a bunch of money on non-US purchases, and additionally the card now features chip-enabled technology which makes it easier to make purchases overseas.

Overall this is a strong travel card with good rewards, no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees and chip-enabled technology. It also did well in our Travel Rewards Credit Card Analysis, with an overall average flight and hotel redemption value of $1.50 for every $100 spent. We recommend the Discover it® Miles card as a strong travel card that can both earn you significant travel rewards (especially in the first year!) and save you money with no foreign transaction fees.
