The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (a NextAdvisor advertiser) is a good choice for those who would like to earn free flights on American Airlines. The annual fee is on the high side at $450, but if you fly American Airlines frequently, the reward miles and added American Airline benefits can far outweigh the fee.

With the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®, you will receive priority check-in, screening and boarding when flying with American Airlines. Additionally, you'll get complimentary Admiral's Club membership. This membership makes over 50 lounge locations worldwide available to you and your immediate family (or a maximum of 2 travel guests). On top of that, you'll get a statement credit of up to $100 every 5 years as a reimbursement for your Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee, and when you fly domestically with American Airlines, the first checked bag is free for you and up to 8 of your travel companions on the same reservation. You'll also pay no foreign transaction fees on international purchases. Since many credit cards charge foreign transaction fees of 3% to 5%, having no foreign transaction fees can save you a lot of money!

On top of those impressive perks, the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® offers a 50,000-mile bonus to those who spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Plus, if you spend $40,000 on purchases within the year, you'll earn 10,000 AAdvantage® Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) — note that EQMs are used to upgrade to a higher status, not for flight or hotel purchases. In terms of ongoing rewards, you'll earn 2 miles per $1 spent on eligible American Airlines purchases and 1 mile per $1 on all other purchases. According to our Travel Rewards Credit Card Analysis, the flight redemption value of these points is $1.25, a nice mid-range value.

Overall, the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® is a good pick for someone who travels a lot on American Airlines and doesn't mind paying a higher annual fee to reap extra perks. If the benefits aren't worth the $450 annual fee to you, take a look at the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select Mastercard — while it doesn't offer the same benefits, it earns miles at a similar rate and boasts a much lower annual fee.
