Chase Freedom Unlimited® Review

Our Detailed Review of This Card

Looking for a straightforward cash back card? Chase Freedom Unlimited® is a great choice with its unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases and no annual fee.

It all starts with some nice intro features. Earn a $150 bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening — that's 30% cash back on the first $500 you spend! Add to that a 15-month 0% intro APR period on purchases, and you can make any large (or small) purchases you need without paying a cent of interest for more than a year.

You can also take advantage of the card's 15-month 0% intro APR on balance transfers to transfer balances from other high-APR cards onto Chase Freedom Unlimited® to save on interest. There is a balance transfer fee of 3% or $5 (whichever is greater), but that is fairly common. If you're specifically looking for a balance transfer card, you may want to use our free Balance Transfer Calculator to find the best card for you.

Another great aspect of Chase Freedom Unlimited® is that the reward redemption options are extremely flexible — you can redeem your rewards for cash at any time, in any amount via an account statement credit or electronic deposit into a checking or savings account. Alternatively, you can use Chase's Ultimate Rewards portal to redeem them for gift cards, travel, and products or services. You can even combine your rewards points with other Chase cards that have Ultimate Rewards, like Chase Sapphire Preferred® and Ink Business CashCredit Card. When you redeem your points for cash back, gift cards or travel, each point is worth $0.01 (i.e., 100 points equals $1 in redemption value).

Finally, as a Chase Freedom Unlimited® cardholder, you can also enjoy a host of Chase benefits. Check your credit score as often as you like without hurting your credit through Credit JourneySM. Rest easier knowing you have zero liability protection — you won't be held responsible for unauthorized charges made with your card or account information. And you can purchase with a little extra security — purchase protection covers your new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft (up to $500 per claim, $50,000 maximum per account) and extended warranty increases the warranty period of U.S. manufacturers' warranties by a year (on warranties of three years or less).

We highly recommend Chase Freedom Unlimited® for its no-nonsense 1.5% cash back, 15-month 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers and its point redemption flexibility.
