Amtrak Guest Rewards® World Mastercard® Review

Our Detailed Review of This Card

The Amtrak Guest Rewards® World Mastercard® is a good choice for those who frequently travel via Amtrak trains. To start, you'll earn a 20,000-point bonus after spending at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening. In terms of ongoing rewards, you'll earn 3 points per $1 spent on Amtrak and 2 points per $1 on qualifying travel purchases. Those travel purchases can include airlines, car rental agencies, hotels, motels, inns, resorts, steamship/cruise lines and travel agencies. All other purchases will earn 1 point for each $1 you spend. There is no limit to how many points you can earn, there are no blackout dates, and as long as you're a cardholder in good standing, your points will not expire.

Other card perks include a complimentary Companion Coupon, One-Class Upgrade and a single-day ClubAcela pass for access to ClubAcela, Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge or First class lounges when you open your account. Plus you'll receive a Companion Coupon and One-Class Upgrade each year you're a cardholder.

You can redeem your earned points via the Amtrak Guest Rewards website for Amtrak travel, or merchant gift certificates for certain car rental agencies, hotels and cruises. You can also spend your points on restaurant and retail gift certificates.

Amtrak Guest Rewards® World Mastercard® does have a $79 annual fee, but if you spend a lot of time on Amtrak (or plan to), this card might be worth it.
