Our Detailed Review of This Card

Apply for This Card

If you have good credit and are able to pay off your balance in full each month in exchange for top-of-the-line rewards and benefits, the American Express® Gold Card (a NextAdvisor advertiser) is the perfect addition to your wallet.

The American Express® Gold Card is a charge card, which means the balance must be paid off each month, but it also means you don't have to worry about interest charges or pre-set spending limits. This card also comes with great intro bonus of 25,000 points that you'll earn after you use the new card to spend $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.

On top of that, the American Express® Gold Card can really pile up the points! You'll earn 4X Membership Rewards points at U.S. restaurants, 4X points at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000/year on purchases), 3X points for flights booked directly with airlines and 1X points on other purchases. There is no limit to how many points you can earn (with the exception of grocery store purchases) and your points never expire, giving you some serious rewards potential. You can redeem your points for travel, entertainment, dining or merchandise (the minimum redemption is 5,000 points).

What's more, from now through 01/09/19, you can not only get the American Express® Gold Card in Limited Edition Rose Gold, but you can also take advantage of a limited-time offer. If you apply by 01/09/19, you can receive 20% back as a statement credit (up to $100 back) at U.S. restaurants within the first 3 months!

Additionally, cardholders can receive an airline fee credit of up to $100 per calendar year for incidentals, like baggage fees at one qualifying airline of your choice, along with up to $10 in statement credits per month (for 12 months) each month they use the card at eligible restaurants. That's $120 in statement credits you can earn each year on top of the 4X points!

An American Express® Gold Card membership will also get you access to a number of travel perks, including preferred seating at sought-after events, premium roadside assistance, return protection, personalized travel service and more. When cardholders book The Hotel Collection with American Express Travel and stay at least 2 consecutive nights at participating properties, they'll receive a $75 hotel credit to spend on qualifying dining, spa and resort activities and a room upgrade upon arrival (when available).

While the card has no foreign transaction fees, meaning it's perfect for travelers, there is a $250 annual fee. As you can tell from all of the rewards and benefits noted above, the rewards and perks easily cover the annual fee (and then some), especially if you apply by 01/09/19!

This is a great card for anyone looking for a charge card with generous rewards whose spending habits will make the higher annual fee worth it. Want even more benefits and points in exchange for a higher annual fee? Take a look at The Platinum Card® from American Express.
