It’s important to start building your credit history early, and a student credit card with rewards is an A+ way to do so. With the Citi Rewards+℠ Student Card (a NextAdvisor advertiser), you’ll earn extra rewards in two popular spending categories, enjoy unique rounding and redemption perks, and benefit from a 0% intro purchase APR offer.

To start, you’ll earn 2,500 points when you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That’s an easy number to reach if you use the card to pay for your textbooks! When redeemed for a gift card at thankyou.com, that bonus is worth $25. As for ongoing rewards, you’ll earn 2X points at supermarkets and gas stations (up to the first $6,000/year, then 1X point). Plus, you’ll earn 1X point on all other purchases.

Your points will also benefit from the Citi Rewards+℠ Student Card‘s unique rounding benefit: every purchase made with this card automatically rounds up to the nearest 10 points, with no cap. Here’s how it works: if you purchase a small cup of coffee for $1.95, which at 1X point per $1 spent would be worth 1.95 points, your points will round up and you’ll earn 10 points on that purchase. If you spend $10.99 on lunch, which at 1X point per $1 spent would be worth 10.99 points, your points will round up to 20. The rounding even applies to purchases in the 2X points category. Say you pay $42 for your weekly groceries. At the 2X points rate, that would earn you 82 points. However, it’ll automatically round up and you’ll earn 90 points on your grocery purchase.

The perks don’t stop there. When you redeem your points, you’ll get 10% back for the first 100,000 points you redeem per year and, through Citi Private Pass, you’ll have special access to purchase tickets for thousands of events, complimentary movie screenings and more.

New to credit cards and afraid of having to pay interest on your balance? The Citi Rewards+℠ Student Card gives you time to get used to managing your balance with a 7-month 0% intro APR on purchases. Plus, the Citi Rewards+℠ Student Card charges no annual fee. You should, however, take note that this card requires good credit. That’s usually a credit score of 700 or higher, and not something you are likely to have as a new credit card user. This means that you’ll probably need a cosigner to be approved for this card.
