Rating:
Bottom Line:
Good cash back rates, but low caps on earnings from gas and restaurant purchases; 0% intro APR
Full Review:
The Discover® Student Open Road Card is designed specifically for college students who drive to and from school and like to eat out, and who will appreciate the 0% introductory interest rate. However, it will not be especially rewarding to cardholders who spend significantly more than $250 on gas and restaurants each month, or who will not easily reach the $3,000 threshold necessary to begin earning a full 1% cash back.

Rewards
  • Monthly Spend Rewards: Earn 2% cash back on the first $250 spent on gas and auto maintenance each month.
  • Annual Spend Rewards: For the first $3,000 spent, earn 0.25% cash back on all purchases. Once you have spent $3,000 with your card annually, you will earn 1% cash back on all other purchases, including any gas and restaurant purchases that exceed the $250 monthly limit.
  • After the $250 monthly limit has been reached, gas and restaurant purchases will continue to earn cash back at the same rate as other purchases.
  • Earn 5% to 20% cash back through Discover's exclusive online shopping website.

Redeem Rewards
  • Redeemable in increments of $20, and can be issued in the form of direct deposits, checks or gift cards.

Fees and APR
  • No annual fee.
  • 0% Intro APR: 0% APR for the first 9 months, then purchase APR.
  • Purchase APR: 13.99-20.99% (Variable), depending on creditworthiness.
  • Balance transfers are not permitted.
