Norton vs. Eset: Which Security
Software Is Best for the Mac?
Posted by Jeff Hindenach
Need security software for your Mac but not sure which is the best? Lucky for you, we have already reviewed them and can tell you which has the best features, is the cheapest, offers the best user-experience, etc. Two of the best security suites that we reviewed were Norton Internet Security for Mac and Eset Cybersecurity for Mac. So which one was better? Let's take a look:
Price: Eset beats Norton by a lot here. While Norton costs $79.99 for a year of protection for one Mac, Eset only costs $39.99. Plus, you can get a 25% discount if you opt for two years of coverage.
Usability: Again, Eset is just plain better in this category. The security suite has a super simple interface that makes it easy and intuitive to use. Norton has a sleek design, but each of its features has its own interface that needs to be launched independently, which can make things confusing and unnecessarily complicated.
Features: This is a category where Norton blows every other software suite out of the water. Eset basically has a quarantine area and some cool scan features, while Norton boasts firewall protection, location awareness, their DeepSight community features (which help protect against new, unknown viruses and malware), a safe surfing feature and identity protection.
Protection: Norton always provides the very best in protection. They win all of the top security software awards for a reason; they know what they are doing when it comes to protection. Eset is almost as good, and is definitely a top name in protection, but Norton is the hands down winner.
So what's the verdict? If you're looking for the very best that security software has to offer for the Mac, Norton is your best bet. If you want a good, solid security suite without the hefty price tag, we would go with Eset.
