New Virus, Malware Trend:
Search Results May Include Tainted Links

Posted by

Be careful what you search for. A new trend in viruses and malware show that many hackers are now using search results as tools for their malicious activity. The practice has now surpassed emails as the main way that hackers try to attack Internet users. A new study, which tracked the web traffic of 75 million users on home and corporate networks, shows that cyber-criminals are now poisoning links that appear in search results across the Internet, according to USA Today.

The malicious search results aren't confined to more popular topics and can pop up in the most obscure searches. Since we are pre-disposed to click on several links in search results to do research on a topic, it makes this form of malware even more dangerous. While the links can all have different looks and functions, the main purpose of most is to upload malicious software or viruses to your computer.

While many search engines, including Google, are trying to find ways to find and block these malicious search results, the practice is still a growing problem. If your computer is not protected, it might be a good idea to get security software, which can help block these kinds of malware and viruses. We review all of the top security software, so take a look at our reviews to find one that fits your needs.
