Can I cancel Identity Guard at any time?

October 1st, 2010 - Posted by Tasha

Q:  If I buy Identity Guard, and after the 30 day free period I pay $14.99, can I still cancel at any time or am I locked in for a period of time? Will I get my FICO score as well as the three credit reports, or is there an extra charge? Can I get hard copies of my credit reports in the mail?

A: The nice thing about Identity Guard is that you can cancel at any time after you sign up, without penalty.  If you cancel within the 30-day free trial period, you will not be billed at all.  And because the membership is month-to-month, you aren't locked in for any period of time.  You can cancel whenever you like.  This is actually a really good deal – you get 30 days of a great service, free credit scores, free 3-bureau credit reports and Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite.  At the end of 30 days,  if you don't feel it works for you, you can cancel free of charge and keep your scores, reports and the software.

Identity Guard includes 3 CreditXpert scores as part of the service (no extra charge), which are a very good approximation FICO scores.  We did a little in-house research on FICO versus CreditXpert, and when we compared  our credit scores from Identity Guard with our actual FICO scores, they were almost identical.

At this time, you can't have your credit reports mailed to you.  This is actually a good thing, because it protects you from having your credit reports fall into the wrong hands.  Instead, you have online access to all three of your credit reports, and you can safely print them out yourself, making sure they remain private.

All-in-all, we think Identity Guard is a great deal for a very comprehensive and complete credit monitoring service.
