Download "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" audiobook for less

July 13th, 2010 - Posted by Kent

Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has captivated audiences on the page, in the movie theater, and through headphones. Yup, the Swedish detective thriller has become a hot mover on audiobook download sites. Listening to an audio sample on Audible.com, it's easy to see hear why. As beach reading turns into beach listening, we thought we'd take a look at the cheapest way to listen to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:

Audible: With its AudibleListener Gold package, you can get three months of service for $7.49. Each month offers you one download credit, which is enough to buy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. You can cancel at any time. When the three months are up, you pay $14.95.

booksfree: Using this Netflix-like rental service, you can rent the audio CD as part of your $22.49-per-month plan. Not a tremendous deal, but if you finish it before the month's up, you can order its sequel, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and not pay a penny more (assuming you return the disc and want to cancel before the month is up).

eMusic: eMusic gives you a free audiobook credit when you sign up, but that will only pay for half of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo download cost. You'll need to pay for an additional credit, ending your two-week trial and signing you up for the monthly plan. With eMusic's billing system you'llĀ  be charged $9.99.

Simply Audiobooks: You can download it for $14.95, if you choose a 1-title-per-month download plan. Go yearly and you pay $13.00. You can rent The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo as a CD for $17.98. As with booksfree, you can rent additional titles for that same monthly fee when you return the disc. Of course, with rentals your ability to rent the CD is based on their supply.

iTunes: If you want to avoid any kind of monthly plan, this is the one to choose, but you'll pay for it. $29.95 gets you the same title you could pay only $7.49 for with Audible. Given that Audible let's you cancel at any time, however, there doesn't seem much point in paying that premium. You can save money with the $17.95 abridged version, but you won't get the whole story.
