Does Vonage bypass/operate independently of your Personal Computer?
April 13th, 2010 - Posted by Kent
The following is an actual user-submitted question:
Q: Does Vonage bypass/operate independently of your Personal Computer?
Example: With 'Magic Jack' if the PC is setup for auto updates and reboots after update, phone service is shut down until you log back on to the system at which time Magic Jack restarts.
A: Yes, Vonage is very different from magicJack in this regard. MagicJack plugs into your computer's USB port, and the phone plugs into the magicJack, so any PC disruption is also a phone disruption. Vonage's VoIP adapter, on the other hand, plugs in to your cable or dsl modem and into your telephone. It is "down stream" of your PC (in fact, the PC's Internet connection plugs into the VoIP adapter). So with Vonage, your PC can be on or off and you'll still be able to make and receive calls.

I have used Vonage for nine months and have had call quality issues for all nine months and Vonage can't solve the problem. I have cancelled Vonage.
