Those consumers that believe they may have been impacted by the massive TJX data breach may be entitled to a 15% discount at a number of popular chain stores this Thursday January 22, 2009.
Various Internet message boards are reporting that TJ Maxx, Marshalls, The Maxx, A.J. Wright and HomeGoods, all retail stores owned by TJX, will be offering the discount as part of a good will gesture to customers who believe that they may have been impacted by the company's massive data breach in 2006.
We have not been able to confirm that a 15% sale will be held at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and TJX's other chain stores on January 22. However, TJX has previously communicated that the company "intends to proceed with the systemwide, storewide sale in 2009".
The sale is part of a general set of customer satisfaction and security efforts that TJX took following the late 2007 discovery that millions of customer records, including credit card numbers, Social Security numbers and driver license numbers) had been breached by hackers. Eleven individuals have been charged with various crimes related to the breach.
You can learn more about the TJX data breach by visiting the website set up by the company to communicate updates to impacted consumers. You can learn more about protecting your identity from criminals by visiting or reviews and comparisons of identity theft protection services.
