How do I cancel FreeCreditReport.com?

January 10th, 2009 - Posted by Joe

The following post in our Reader Question series is an actual user submitted question. To maintain the integrity of the original question, we do not edit or change reader questions in any way.

Q:  How do I cancel [FreeCreditReport.com] after report?

A: FreeCreditReport.com offers a free Experian credit report and credit score when you sign up for a seven day free trial of three bureau credit report monitoring service.  FreeCreditReport.com offers simple instructions on the website on how to cancel your account at anytime:

How do I cancel my membership?

If for any reason you are not satisfied, you can cancel anytime to discontinue your membership to Triple Advantage Credit Monitoring and stop the monthly billing. However, you will not be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of your current month's paid membership fee. To cancel, please contact Customer Care at 1-888-829-6560.

Just because FreeCreditReport.com makes it easy to cancel your subscription doesn't necessarily mean you should cancel after you have received your free credit report and score.  Subscribing to a credit report monitoring service is the most cost effective way we know of to keep tabs on your financial health and, just as importantly, save you money.  Your credit file is constantly changing and negative items on your credit report can literally cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year.

  12. KTJ Says:

All of you people must not use the internet very much. Do you think credit report sites check your blog posts on a totally random site to cancel your subscription. Thats why, before you give your credit card, you read the term and conditions, thats how a lot of "free" internet sites get you. And did that person really put his account number on this blog…no wonder why peoples identitys get stolen and their like, "Wow, how did that happen, derrr…" I dunno if that can happen with just an account number, but I wouldn't take that chance. All credit reports charge about $15, duh. If you didn't cancel the "free" ones within 9 days, they charge you and sometimes they make it hard for you to even cancel, so be careful what you decide to give a credit card number to…

  13. Jeff Says:

it should be just as easy to cancel as it is to sign up, Mr Modernbug. You have a lousy attitude!

  27. thenerd88 Says:

I feel like this answer is completely missing the point. Free credit report does NOT make it easy to cancel. you need to call them on there clock to cancel something that they are charging you for. So if you want to cancel they want to know why, by having you talk to some annoying person on the phone. It is not like in the year 2011 we lack the technology required to have a account canceled. It is not like you need to call them to set it up. that fact right there makes the whole idea of having to call them disingenuous. they make canceling much harder. sadly the only way to cancel that I have found so far is calling them. they will try and offer me a half rate for a year or some BS. If you are reading this, and they do that to you, DO NOT TAKE THE OFFER. you will forget about it. just say that you want to cancel no matter what they say.

  28. Thelton Skipper Says:

please make sure that I did not set up a credit report account tonight. I took my American Express number ending 2007 but would not let me in to my credit scores. All I want is to know that I did not sign up

  31. Jo Says:

This isn't Freecreditreport's customer service, folks. It's a random internet info blog. I'm sure the customer service reps probably have never even heard of this particular page. You idiots are what's wrong in this country.
