New LifeLock features battle new and old identity theft techniques

May 2nd, 2008 - Posted by Joe

LifeLock is announcing two new features of their top rated identity theft protection service that we believe will provide significant benefits to consumers.

The first new feature, eRecon, is a proprietary technology that scours the dark alleys of the Internet looking for unauthorized use of their client's social security numbers, driver license number, credit card numbers and email addresses. This type of information is illegally bought and sold on the Internet by criminals everyday and eRecon is designed to catch any presence of your personal information in these black markets.

The launch of LifeLock's eRecon comes at a time when we are increasingly seeing identity theft service providers using advanced technologies to fight identity theft. This is an excellent trend for consumers as identity thieves consistently find ways to use technology to perpetrate identity theft.

The next new LifeLock feature, TrueAddress, aims to solve the much more "low tech" problem of postal mail theft. TrueAddress monitors change of address requests registered with the United States Post Office. If they find a request is found, LifeLock will alert the impacted customer so they can determine whether an identity thief is attempting to steal their mail.

Your postal mail is a gold mine for identity thieves. Even pre-approved credit card offers and junk mail present a potential risk. TrueAddress is a great tool for consumers to help combat postal mail theft and, thereby, helping to prevent identity theft.

The best part of both of these services is that they are available to LifeLock subscribers for no additional charge. You can learn more about LifeLock and other identity theft protection services by viewing our identity theft protection service provider reviews and comparison.
